George, Duke of Cambridge became Commander-in-Chief of the Army at the age of 37, and held that position for no less than 39 years. Son of the eccentric, Adolphus, seventh and favourite son of Gorge III, Prince George was bom in 1819, and until the birth of his cousin Victoria later the same year, was heir presumptive to the throne of England.
